Crossover dance music act fronted by Sedric Johnson (b. Alabama, USA). The leader of the 100-strong Long Beach Choir, he was spotted at a soul revue by Englishman Will Mount, who was on the lookout for a singer. After an impromptu performance Mount, who together with producer/remixer Rollo formed the musician team behind Gloworm, was won over. They anchored Johnson’s gospel-inspired vocals to a club beat to produce records like ‘I Lift My Cup’ and ‘Carry Me Home’, both based on traditional songs. The result was reviewed as spiritual hard house, and widely admired. ‘I Lift My Cup’, on Pulse 8 Records, broke into the UK Top 20 in February 1993. ‘Carry Me Home’, on Go! Beat, had even more crossover success, reaching number 9 the following May.
