Goldie (Clifford Joseph Price MBE) is a pioneering British DJ, producer, visual artist, and actor, best known for his transformative influence on jungle and drum and bass. A breakout star of the UK rave era, Goldie helped bring underground sounds to the mainstream with his signature fusion of breakbeats, orchestral textures, and emotive vocals.
He began as a graffiti artist in the early 1980s and immersed himself in New York’s hip-hop culture in 1986, where he also began crafting gold dental jewellery—a signature of his image. His music career launched with the alias Rufige Kru, and in 1994 he co-founded the iconic Metalheadz label, a pillar of drum and bass that launched artists like Photek and Source Direct.
His 1995 debut album Timeless, featuring the iconic “Inner City Life,” reached No. 7 on the UK Albums Chart and is regarded as a landmark in electronic music. The track was recently ranked No. 12 on Billboard’s 100 Best Dance Songs of All Time. He followed with Saturnz Return (1998) and returned with The Journey Man (2017).
Goldie has also appeared in films (The World Is Not Enough, Snatch) and TV (EastEnders, Celebrity Big Brother). In 2016, he was awarded an MBE for services to music and the arts. He continues to innovate through Metalheadz and Subjective, and recently relaunched Rufige Kru with Alpha Omega, featuring a collab CASISDEAD. He’s currently touring with a live band and as a DJ and working on a new studio album due in 2026.
