Graintable is the moniker of Portland, Oregon based producer James Cooke. With the acquisition of a Roland Juno-106 in 2013, he found his creative process becoming open-ended, and his compositions more experimental. Late night sound design sessions soon developed into ambient compositions of their own, saturated with the landscape and weather of the Pacific Northwest. The rain-sodden, star-gazing sounds conjure up lonely radar blips in the midst of a whirling storm. Spiraling arpeggios channel into noisy crescendos while subtle melodies come to the fore like woozy slo-mo synth pop wrapped up in a wool blanket.
