Grizzly Coast

Since the release of her 2020 Party of One EP, Toronto’s Grizzly Coast has grown tremendously as an artist. This evolution culminates in her debut full-length album, Staying Power. Across nine songs, Alannah Kavanagh wrestles with the challenges of navigating uncertainty in the face of significant life decisions. For so long, she believed that everyone else had it figured out, making confident choices with certainty at every step. Staying Power pulls back the curtain on that illusion, revealing ambivalence at the core of Kavanagh’s raw, yet refined lyricism.

Produced by Alexandre Bonenfant (July Talk, Said the Whale), the album intertwines jangly guitars, melodic bass lines and shimmering keys with Kavanagh’s powerhouse vocal performance. With standout tracks like “Clouds,” which gained traction on Canadian Alternative radio, spinning on SiriusXM’s The Verge—the debut has caught the attention of listeners and critics alike. As 102.1 The Edge describes, Staying Power “holds an energetic song called ‘Two Balloons,’ buzzing riffs subtly adding a punchy backing to the sweet love song…comparing romance to ‘two lost balloons, at heights they never knew.’ The track simmers with possibility.” This debut album is a testament to Grizzly Coast’s journey as an artist, embodying her commitment to authenticity and honouring the power of trusting oneself in the face of uncertainty.
