London-based alternative-electronic artist, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Harlequiin shares the vibrant new single ‘Hand That Move You’ featuring Lisolotte Ostblom. The brainchild of renowned session and routing musician Rory Simmons, the track blends the experimental electronica that stylises Harlequiin’s sound with the jazz musicianship which has shaped Rory’s career.
Released following the success of the previous album Even As She Spoke, She Began To Lose Her Form which gained support from BBC Radio 6 Music, the new single the rich musicality and inventive, experimental ideas which make Rory’s music so exciting and original.
The album features an eclectic range of inspirations—from the contemporary production stylings of Fourtet, AG Cook, Nikki Nair, Kaytranada, and Sophie to the rhythmic legacies of Thomas Mapfumo, Artur Nunes, The Rob, and Fela Kuti. Harlequiin’s meticulous approach to sound design is evident throughout, incorporating elements from ceremonial Ugandan music, Japanese fairy tales, Kikuyu choirs, and Sumatran percussion. These layered influences lend the album an otherworldly yet deeply rooted energy that refuses to be confined to a single genre.
Harlequiin, the musical alias of Rory Simmons, has already garnered critical acclaim across the industry. His previous work has received radio play and recognition from BBC Radio 6 Music as well as gaining high praise across music press.
