San Diego acid rock revivalists Harsh Toke emerged in late 2012 in the form of a Bandcamp site with two lengthy heavy psych jams bearing the straightforward titles of "A Minor Jam" and "E Minor Jam." The jammers in question were guitarist Justin Figueroa, drummer Austin Ayub, bassist Richie Belton, and keyboardist Gabe Messer. The band played out locally and worked toward a full-length album. Their self-titled debut materialized in late 2013 on Tee Pee Records, including four extended explorations with self-explanatory titles like "Light Up and Live." The album showed the band's development away from strict instrumental jamming with the inclusion of vocals by Messer and more structured songs in the vein of stoner metal heroes like Black Sabbath and Hawkwind. ~ Fred Thomas, Rovi
