Runner-up in Talentime 2001, together with songwriter Mayuni Omar, they won the Juara 2002 songwriting competition and the song Kaulah Segalanya, hit the top of the charts for 5 consecutive weeks and was in the Malaysian ERA charts as well. The EP received a record 8 nominations in 7 different categories in the Anugerah Planet Muzik 2004 including Most Popular Male Artiste (Regional) and Best New Artiste (Regional). Hazrul also sang the theme song for the Lee Kuan Yew Water Prize Award 2008 and the inaugural Singapore National Games. In 2014, Hazrul was invited to be a part of the Chingay Festival where he, together with three other top local singers, sang the theme song, Knit With One Heart, composed by Jay Lin. He also performed at the opening ceremony of the SEA Games in June 2015. Hazrul was invited to perform at the Asia Traditional Orchestra in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019. He was accompanied by a 50-piece orchestra for the song, Singapura at the prestigious event held in Gwangju and Busan, South Korea.
After his stint in Talentime 2001, Hazrul became part of Vocaluptuous, who performed at Singapore's National Day parade in 2009, where they led the crowd in singing our national anthem, and in 2013.
