Helly Luv was born Helan Abdullah in the Iranian city of Urmia on November 16th, 1988. Her parents fled to Turkey with her during the Second Gulf War, before immigrating to Finland. It was there that her passion for music and dance was awakened, and she was awarded multiple times for her dancing skills. Upon coming of age, she decided to move to the US to fulfill her life’s dream of becoming a singer. Self-produced videos, which she uploaded on MySpace and YouTube, earned her the attention of Grammy-awarded producer Carlos McKinney (Beyoncé, Chris Brown, Rihanna among others), who quickly landed her the first record deal. Apart from music, Helly Luv engages in other ventures as well: She runs a beauty salon in the Iraqian city of Erbil and starred in the movies “Mardan” (2014) and “Flag Without A Country” (2015). In 2014, she founded the non-profit organization Luv House to support Kurdish humans and animals in need.
