Born in Detroit, MI, where his parents' influence steeped him in funk, soul, and gospel. It wasn't until he reached the age of 9, during his time in TX, that his passion for music began to flourish, with dance emerging as his chosen medium for expression.
As a dedicated member of Studio One, Academy of Villains, theSQUAD, and Funkywunks, Hew honed his skills as a professional hip hop dancer, gracing stages and competing. However, his journey took a new turn when he relocated to Nashville, redirecting his focus towards music production. Here, he blended nostalgic melodies with contemporary hip hop elements, becoming a pivotal figure in the city's songwriting community.
Beyond his live performances, Hew's talents have also extended to the screen, with several sync placements on major networks, TV shows, and commercials. His music has been featured in popular series like Empire, All American, Hawaii 5-0, and most recently, a national Pizza Hut commercial, further cementing his impact on both the music and entertainment industries.
“One thing that’s consistently cool about hip-hop in Nashville is the kaleidoscopic array of unique styles. Hew G. has at least one thing in common with several other notable locals. He’s got a full band that plays with him at shows; they’re billed as Hew and the Gees. It’s all in service of bouncy and danceable tunes that flirt hard with pop-schooled R&B” -Stephen Trageser(Nashville Scene)
