HINA is the creative mantle of Tāmaki Makaurau-based songwriter Amy Boroevich (Te Rarawa, Ngāti Raukawa), whose name she shares with a goddess of the moon known across Polynesia. Described by Remix Magazine as “genre-fluid,” HINA blends folk, rock, soul, and te reo Māori into compositions that are as haunting as they are healing.
Following the independent release of Muse and Omen, HINA has become one of Aotearoa’s most captivating new voices. Happy Mag praised her debut for its “soulful mastery,” while Rolling Stone called Omen “a masterclass in emotional world-building,” describing her single Hinātore as “transcendent... brimming with ancestral resonance.”
Her singles Libertine and Tararua charted on the SRN Top 10 and NZ Hot 20 Singles respectively, with 2024’s Dangerous featured on Home & Away. With coverage in Remix, Hype Medium, and live sessions on RNZ and bFM, her work continues to reach growing audiences.
Live, she holds what RNZ calls an “arresting presence” and “emotive vocal delivery", headlining sold-out solo shows and performing at Auckland Folk Festival, Auckland Arts Festival, Te Papa Museum, and Forsyth Barr Stadium with SIX60.
As a songwriter, she co-wrote the APRA Maioha Award-winning waiata Me Pēhea Rā with Mohi Allen, Noema Te Hau III, and Hēmi Kelly - a milestone in her contribution to Māori music.
HINA’s debut album, coming soon, builds on her evolving sound - intimate, atmospheric, and carefully crafted.
