Growing up performing alongside her father at his gigs from the age of 7, 21 years on Alya Jade is an emerging artist drawing inspiration from a variety of genres and experiences to create her own unique fusion of roots, reggae and pop, beginning with her debut single ‘Under Her Spell (Boom)’.
Undertaking development through NZ On Air with producer Ben Malone in 2021, the two experimented with different styles of writing and production to eventually land on what became the world of 'Under Her Spell (Boom)', co-written with alternative/pop artist Harry Parsons.
Following the release of her debut single, ‘Under Her Spell (Boom)’, Alya Jade then released the song in Te Reo Māori after receiving Waiata Takitahi funding. In July, ‘I Tōna Wā (Boom)’ charted at #9 on Recorded Music’s Te Reo Singles Chart and at #18 on the Hot New Zealand Singles Chart.
In August 2022, Alya collaborated with musician and producer, Samuel Taylor, at a Māori music wananga. Her song originally written in English was developed and translated into Te Reo Māori. ‘Ngā Hau O Tāwhiri’ has a raw, haunting, almost Americana feel while still carrying the underlying pop and reggae vibe which for Alya Jade is her musical sweet spot.
