Scottish band Hipsway formed in 1984 with bassist John McElhone, vocalist Grahame Skinner, drummer Harry Travers and guitarist Ally McLeod who was then replaced by Pim Jones.

The group signed to Mercury releasing singles "Broken Years”, “Ask the Lord” & top 20 hit, “Honey Thief."

Their self-titled debut album was released in 1986 and certified gold in the UK and went on to sell over 500,000 copies worldwide.

The second Hipsway album, 1989's Scratch the Surface, was released after the band had split. Skinner and Jones then signed to A&M as Witness, releasing one album, House Called Love.

After a long period pursuing their own personal and musical interests, Jones and Skinner reunited, reviving the band for 30th anniversary performances in 2016 and recorded the album Smoke & Dreams in 2018.
