Choreographer Hofesh Shechter OBE is recognised as one of the most exciting artists making film, music and stage work today, renowned for composing atmospheric musical scores to complement the unique physicality of his movement. He is Artistic Director of the UK-based Hofesh Shechter Company, formed in 2008.
Shechter's work has been performed in venues including the Roundhouse London, O2 Brixton Academy, Barbican, Sadler’s Wells, Brooklyn Academy of Music, Theatre de la Ville Paris and La Scala Milan amongst others.
He has choreographed for theatre, television, opera and film, notably at the Metropolitan Opera (New York) for Nico Mulhy’s Two Boys, the Royal Court on Motortown and The Arsonists, the National Theatre on Saint Joan and for the Channel 4 series Skins. Hofesh reuinted with John Fulljames at the Royal Opera House and reunited with him again in 2020 to co-direct LIGHT: Bach Dances – recipient of the Fedora -VAN CLEEF & ARPELS Prize for Ballet 2020 - in collaboration with Royal Danish Theatre and Opera. In 2016 Shechter received a Tony Award nomination for his choreography for the Broadway revival of Fiddler on the Roof.
Hofesh Shechter’s Clowns - broadcast by the BBC to great acclaim, following up in 2021 with POLITICAL MOTHER: The Final Cut. Also in 2021, he collaborated with French film director, Cédric Klapisch, on his new feature film En corps.
