After starting off his career in shoegaze band Blackstrap Stockholm’s Jonatan Westh has now embarked on a new solo project, Holy Ship. The project blends influences from throughout Westh’s career, and updates them into a modern incarnation of his sound, neo psychedelia, industrial influences and soaring acid-rock.
When Blackstrap disintegrated by 2013 developing into various sonic particles ( I Break Horses , The Heart of The Sun ) Westh regrouped with building his own studio, Pink House Studios in Stockholm. This is where Westh mixed various recordings for Stockholm bands, Runtom Knuten , and danmarck which sparked the recordings to what would be his new music as HOLY SHIP. 2018 has been very welcoming to HOLY SHIP internationally with support from radio tastemakers like KEXP, charting Top 10 at Swedish student radio and gaining tastemaker Spotify playlists.
KEXP – ”The debut EP ... is a well-crafted blend of shoegazerish dream-pop and psych-tinged dance pop with fuzzy guitars, atmospheric synths, driving rhythms, half-buried vocals and hypnotic song hooks.”
WHITE LIGHT/WHITE HEAT: – "from lysergic neo-psychedelia, to clanging industrial rhythms, from indie-dance shambling beats to soaring acid-rock, into a modern, cohesive and refined, dark and mesmerizing signature sound.”
INDIE SHUFFLE: ”My hat's off to Jonatan Westh, the Swedish lad behind Holy Ship who has very much coaxed me away from the shining lights of disco and funk to his synth rock sound.”
