Houston Grand Opera (HGO) is one of the largest, most innovative, and highly acclaimed opera companies in the United States. Khori Dastoor assumed leadership as the company’s fourth General Director in 2021.
HGO stands as a leader in the operatic world, having been the only American finalist for Opera Company of the Year in the 2019 International Opera Awards—and one of only two U.S. companies to be nominated twice. In fulfilling its mission to advance operatic art, serve the Houston community, and be a global leader for the future of the artform, HGO has led the field in commissioning new work, with 76 world premieres as of 2025. The company is also a trailblazer in nurturing the next generation of artists through its acclaimed training programs. HGO has toured extensively and has won a Tony, two Grammy awards, and three Emmy awards. It is the only opera company to win all three honors.
