Born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa, Hugo Veldsman is fast becoming a sensation in the local indie-folk and rock scene after his debut studio album, The Calm Before. His iconic use of roots inspired lapsteel guitar, and his classical training from the Stellenbosch Conservatory, morphs into his intimate “alternative folk” style of song writing. Hugo and his band travel and tour throughout South Africa, playing pubs, clubs, cafés, theatres and festivals alike (notably: Up the Creek, Zeegunst and STRAB), also having opened to the likes of Dan Patlansky and Prime Circle.
In parallel to his solo career, Hugo also composes music to film and other media, and performs alongside other acts, such as the dark folk/country band, Blackwood Wendy.
