Auckland band Hunt The Witch began when Bevan Carbines (guitar) and Antony Lakin (bass) started jamming on ideas in 2013 where a solid foundation of heavy sonic riffs were laid.
Jason Peters (drums and formally of Pumpkinhead) joined awhile later and they continued to write songs as a three piece.
The last ingredient required was vocals and so Sam Whitley entered into the fray, whose vocal range, personality and writing abilities were the glue needed to complete the line up, from the first rehearsal it was crystal clear that the line up was going to work well together.
In April 2015 the band recorded their first EP Into the black at Roundhead Studios, the EP was recorded straight to tape with no computer editing, it was a challenge but the end result was well worth it. The EP was engineered and mixed by Jordan Stone and Mastered by Gavin Lurrson (Foo Fighters/Kyuss/Queens of the stoneage). The EP received critical acclaim on it’s release and was a solid first release from this up and coming Auckland heavy rock band.
Hunt the Witch had a line up change in 2017, Antony Lakin decided to leave the band and Jason Clarke joined the witch as the new bass player after a successful audition. He’s a solid bass player who was a fan of the band, and helped finish recording their first album Strange Gods released May 17, 2019 and is already receiving rave reviews. Jason left the band in 2018 on great terms and Andrew Woods has now taken up bass duties for the witch. Stay tuned...
