Guitars, percussion, synths and a whole lot of soul-searching is all that Iguana Death Cult needed for their recent resurrection. Following a personnel change, the band gained a strong new line-up including the dazzling drummer Uri Rennert (Häxxan, Brian Jonestown Massacre). This new era channels their earlier punk and garage roots while feeling unmistakably of today. It is characterised by razor-sharp, highly rhythmic riffing by Tobias Opschoor, relentless drumming by Rennert, ever-groovy percussion and synths by Jimmy de Kok, and the hefty yet heartfelt voice of frontman Jeroen Reek, guiding listeners through despair, anger and solace.
Formed in 2014 as a group of friends wanting to make rock ’n roll, Iguana Death Cult have covered serious ground over the past decade, touring with Osees and Frankie and the Witchfingers, supporting Jack White, and playing SXSW, Levitation Festival and Desert Daze across multiple US tours.
On their new record Guns Out (Greenway Records & RVRB Records), the band embraces self-reflection by breaking with the art-punk-funk sound of Echo Palace (Innovative Leisure, 2023) and returning to fast, punchy garage rock. Tough on the outside yet contemplative within, Guns Out captures a band coming to terms with themselves and the world they live in.
