iinz’s new EP Life in Two blends myriad influences, from female powerhouses like Bjork, Imogen Heap, Fiona Apple, and Regina Spektor to the Israeli global music icon Idan Raichel and the a cappella tradition. In these four tracks the artist utilizes a mix of organic and electronic instrumentation to create rich, complex soundscapes, replete with decorative synth, vocal instrumentation, and meditative percussion. This layered style provides a conduit for her to lyrically explore questions of philosophy, introspection, and connection that feel urgent even to the audience.
Being Israeli American has formed a core pillar of iinz’s identity, both personally and musically. The confluence of both cultures is clear in her instrumentation, and her lyrics – specifically in the title track, “Life in Two” – often tackle the rootless struggle of living with one foot in each country. Other songs incorporate tribal-sounding drums, soft piano, driving electronic percussion, and iinz’s own voice acting as its own wordless instrument.
Where her music is an exploration of diverse influences, that diversity also carries over to iinz’s involvement in LA’s fertile independent music scene. She has organized shows all over Los Angeles over the years, seeking to amplify collective art and help both the individuals and the community thrive. iinz currently resides in Los Angeles, where she writes, plays, and tackles the endless questions that make up human existence.
