Ink Sticks & Stones is the moniker for Toronto based composer-musician Ai Rei Dooh-Tousignant. Being of mixed descent, she is constantly searching for different ways to express her many cultures, and openly advocates for a more inclusive Canadian music scene. Through her audiovisual projects, she invites us into her unique world based in neoclassical ambiant music with hints of traditional Chinese music.
In May 2022, her latest EP Après la tombée du ciel was released, along with a 2 week run of the film online. The 6 song album asks the question "after the world has ended, what happens next?" Starting off as chaotic and epic, the album gradually becomes calmer and more minimal, with notable tracks Catharsis and Les derniers vestiges.
Previously, Ink Sticks & Stones released the EP Vaste, exploring the beauty of the Boreal Forests of Canada. It was an homage to nature and its beauty. In 2021, Vaste was well received with interviews on local radio stations and local Société Radio-Canada radio shows. The accompanying film was an official selection at the 2021 Montreal Independent Film Festival under the category Best Composer. The art exhibition Vaste, comprising the film and 17 accompanying photographs, made its gallery debut in the winter of 2022.
