When Philadelphia jangle-pop dreamers <a href="spotify:artist:7dAlRM3jYjwYIcy6dxmqMN" data-name="Mercury Girls">Mercury Girls</a> called it quits in 2017, songwriter Sarah Schimeneck teamed with producer/synth-head <a href="spotify:artist:3lIoNmmVMhWTEuwZMWFWq1" data-name="Jeff Zeigler">Jeff Zeigler</a> to form Inletts, a duo of haunted atmospheres and darkly-rendered dreams. Shifting slowly between longer, semi-improvised ambient song webs and tightly structured wintery pop, Inletts showcases Schimeneck’s stark but catchy sensibilities and Zeigler’s sharp production. Skeletal drum machine rhythms and wispy piano fragments support obscured vocal harmonies and songs slowly churn forward. Hypnotic and reaching, Inletts is always broadcasting from an icy distance, moving inch by inch through strange passages.
