Interlopers, the new project by Steven Lindsay (The Big Dish), released the debut single “Nothing Will Ever Be The Same Again” via Chrysalis Records/Blue Raincoat Music on January 21st. His first new music for 15 years, “Nothing Will Ever Be The Same Again” shows Lindsay has lost none of his ability to create elegantly crafted music with humanity and insight its core. Contemporaries of Talk Talk, Prefab Sprout and Scritti Politti, The Big Dish released three albums between 1986 – 1991 (Swimmer, Creeping Up On Jesus and Satellites). Lindsay subsequently released two critically acclaimed solo albums, Exit Music (2005) and Kite (2007), before the demise of his label, Echo. After being shortlisted for Scotland’s Aspect Art prize in 2011 Steven became a full-time artist and his career as a painter has flourished, though he’s never stopped writing songs. Despite his success in both the music and the art world, Glasgow-based Steven has always felt like something of an outsider. “In my music career, I’ve never known where I fitted in,” he confesses. “When I began dipping my toes in the art world, I felt the same way.” Despite retaining a committed and passionate fanbase, The Big Dish never achieved the commercial success they deserved, nor did Steven’s two previous solo album. But for believers and newcomers alike, his return to music after 15 years is cause for celebration. At long last, the time feels right for Steven Lindsay.
