Over the course of the last decade, recording artist, multi-instrumentalist, and producer iogi has established himself as a musical Swiss army knife. As a bassist, guitarist, violinist, and drummer he has recorded extensively and toured widely in Europe and North America. In 2018, iogi signed with Raw Tapes Records, founded by Rejoicer (Stones Throw).
Iogi’s third album we can be friends is a lush collection of chamber-pop songs with a generous and easygoing spirit—a result of Iogi’s ability to make music that radiates with empathy and thoughtfulness. The album follows his indelible 2018 debut the ceiling and 2021’s dreamy everything's worth it, and it’s the culmination of an impressive career that’s already included over 18 million Spotify streams. There’s an inherent playfulness in his songwriting—reminiscent of Harry Nilsson’s seemingly effortless songwriting and Steely Dan’s smooth elegance, as well as psych-pop contemporaries like Peel Dream Magazine and Unknown Mortal Orchestra.
Almost entirely self-produced, the album is a refreshingly funky, introspective, and transportive blend of dream pop and indie rock that shares a kinship with the music of Jerry Paper, Mild High Club, and Real Estate and affirms iogi’s status as a forward-thinking 21st-century auteur expanding on the traditions of icons like Paul McCartney and Brian Wilson.
