Like <a href="spotify:artist:3jVMgT4X7YeuYE4aludcmE">Phil Spector</a> before him, producer John Giotto is the driving creative force behind It's My Party, a band that pays homage to the girl groups of the '60s even as it brings their sound to the present day. Giotto began the group in the late '80s with a trio of twentysomething singers, initially creating a sound that owed more to <a href="spotify:artist:2mG8HHQ9S9kcbjcrb5N1FE">the Go-Go's</a> rather than <a href="spotify:artist:7CyeXFnOrfC1N6z4naIpgo">the Ronettes</a>. When that original incarnation fizzled out in 1995, Giotto realized that something had been missing from the equation all along: Real teenagers singing these anthems of teenage femininity. He recruited three girls from a nearby high school and It's My Party was finally formed.
