J. Alston

J Alston, a.k.a. the trap preacher was born in Plainfield, New Jersey and raised in Cameron North Carolina.


Born the youngest of three, in a very small town J Alston absorbed the reality around him but didn’t let it define him. At a young age he was able to balance concepts of duality and empathy. His musical palate is a balance of Gospel soul trap and blues. These were the sounds heard from every corner of his life.
At age 22 he sold his car and move to Atlanta. Shortly after arriving in Atlanta to begin working for the record label. BPE. There’s labels responsible for the hit racks, on racks on racks. This time in the industry allowed him to sharpen his skills while being around and touching bases with several up-and-coming artist, including future, the Migos, Taylor J, Johnny Cinco, Gucci Mane, and network and work with produces like honorable CNOTE BRON Zatoven Cassius, Jay cheese, and many more.


Music journalists and those most familiar with the rap upstart describe J Alston's musical style as a hybrid between rap superstars DMX and J Cole. If you ask Alston himself, he will describe his approach as putting "medicine in the candy". Heartfelt themes of purpose, faith, and hope are delivered with visceral and vulnerable vocals over hard-knocking trap beats or whatever he’s feeling !
