Jam & Spoon were a 1990 founded German electronic music duo consisting of classically trained musician & producer, Rolf Ellmer (<a href="spotify:artist:0UmSf9lDFeavYgD65VrtHs" data-name="Jam El Mar">Jam El Mar</a>), and producer & DJ, Markus Löffel (Mark Spoon).
Heralded among the pioneers of Trance the duo made an enormous impact in 1992 with their groundbreaking remix of <a href="spotify:album:1lvQv4KLgECYj4jPkwGPh5" data-name="The Age Of Love">The Age Of Love</a> by Age Of Love.
After the first Jam and Spoon EP, 'Tales From A Danceographic Ocean' -incl. influential hit <a href="spotify:track:5eKuWOJsFfmfba7y7AnoGc" data-name="Stella">Stella</a>- the duo unleashed a barrage of succesful remix material for <a href="spotify:artist:3OsRAKCvk37zwYcnzRf5XF" data-name="Moby">Moby</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:1mZu3rO7qSD09GdDpePHhY" data-name="Frankie Goes To Hollywood">Frankie Goes To Hollywood</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:4pAYkltTzVhqBZuDekCHa3" data-name="Deep Forest">Deep Forest</a> and others.
The single <a href="spotify:track:6x6G0shZs4Qg4YLfLbhR7z" data-name="Right in the Night (Fall in Love with Music)">Right in the Night (Fall in Love with Music)</a> followed in 1993, the first of several of the duo's recordings to feature the American-born vocalist, <a href="spotify:artist:6ALuTGOzgoIUnuiyvqvMW2" data-name="Plavka">Plavka</a>. That same year, Jam and Spoon issued their full-length debut LP, the two-volume Tripomatic Fairytales 2001/02 which saw a move away from the pile-driving beats of earlier efforts towards a more commercial sound.
Though the next Jam and Spoon LP, 1997's <a href="spotify:album:1EEvLA3VNSyXHNLTqwH3tX" data-name="Kaleidoscope">Kaleidoscope</a>, didn't cause much of a splash, a remix of 'Stella' became a worldwide club hit in 1999. The non-album related single <a href="spotify:album:3lx4EPzVIvgWkF0SzEjJYc" data-name="Be.Angeled">Be.Angeled</a> followed in 2001.
The final Jam & Spoon album <a href="spotify:album:26v6n30nYRSucepnD4vuaQ" data-name="Tripomatic Fairytales 3003">Tripomatic Fairytales 3003</a> was released in 2004. Although the duo began their career as a Techno/Trance act, especially their final album saw them open up in all directions, with a sound years ahead of it's time.
Markus Löffel passed away from a heart attack in his Berlin flat on 11 January 2006. He was 39 years old.
