James started releasing DIY bedroom pop in his late teens and early twenties, making a name for himself on indie radio in his hometown Vienna, Austria. In 2012/13 he released his first giveaway mixtapes, picking up momentum online and spreading his name to radios and bloggers worldwide. 2014 he toured Europe and the US supporting <a href="spotify:artist:1hzfo8twXdOegF3xireCYs" data-name="Milky Chance">Milky Chance</a>, who released an album of his via their own imprint. In 2015 a bootleg remix of his live video for “Coming Over” went viral (filous remix) and caught the attention of EDM heavyweights <a href="spotify:artist:23fqKkggKUBHNkbKtXEls4" data-name="Kygo">Kygo</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:5R3Hr2cnCCjt220Jmt2xLf" data-name="Dillon Francis">Dillon Francis</a>. Their rework of the song reached #1 Billboard Dance, and led to notable guest performances at Coachella, Lollapalooza, and the Hollywood Bowl. His self-penned follow-up “Miss You” earned two Gold Records and catapulted James to global success with his unique voice and carefree writing style. Enjoying relative artistic freedom since then, James has enjoyed pursuing his love for music through various independent releases and songwriting for others. In 2021 James featured legendary Canadian funk-duo <a href="spotify:artist:2mV8aJphiSHYJf43DxL7Gt" data-name="Chromeo">Chromeo</a> on his single “Closer.” In recent years James has turned his attention even more toward writing songs with and for others, releasing collab tracks with producers and artists around the world.
