My name is James Roy Daley. I have a deep love of music in all its forms and I've pushed myself to a point where I'm able to play a bunch of different instruments and craft a sound that's all my own.
As a big fan of horror novels, movies, and all things gothic, there's a dark element that creeps into some of my songs. Sometimes I embrace it.
I see myself as an artist first and a musician second. What I mean by this is that I like to create things out of nothing.
I'm a writer: I've written songs, albums, screenplays, poems, short stories, novellas, novels and who knows what else; I've lost track.
This is my current process:
I write the songs on an acoustic guitar.
Then I go into the studio and record the acoustic version to a click track.
Using the click track I lay down the drums, bass and rhythm guitar, working with the engineer and mixing the track as I go.
Once I have the new foundation I throw away the acoustic version.
From there I record keys, piano, percussion, lead guitar and vocals.
When the song is nearing completion I bring in my buddy Alex Sales to play the Saxophone.
As a finishing touch I may or may not bring in a guest musician: guitars, keys, vocals––whatever I think is needed.
Then I focus on the final mix, the final master and there you have it: my secret formula.
Hope you like it.
