Jared Sims performs on all of the saxophones as well as clarinet and flute. He has toured throughout the United States and in Europe, South America, India, and Asia. Sims has shared the stage with a diverse array of artists including Han Bennink, Cecil McBee, Melvin Sparks, Soulive, Temptations, Four Tops, 10,000 Maniacs, Artie Shaw Orchestra, and Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra. His recent recordings include The Mind Reveals (Ropeadope in 2019), The NYC Sessions (Ropeadope in 2018), and Change of Address (Ropeadope in 2017).
Sims regularly performs in the Pittsburgh area as well as Richmond, Washington D.C., New York City, Boston. He has recently headlined clubs as far away as Seattle, Bangkok, and Kuala Lumpur.
As a scholar, Sims has recently written articles and contributed in JazzEd, JazzTimes and DownBeat magazines. He is the Artistic Director for the Jazz Camp at Newport in Newport, Rhode Island. He directed university ensembles at Newport Jazz Festival five different times.
He holds jazz degrees from West Virginia University and New England Conservatory. He completed his doctorate in classical performance at Boston University with research topics including Luciano Berio, Stravinsky, and Ives.
