Beat Funktion

Beat Funktion is a Swedish jazz fusion band. The band's music is a danceable mix of 70s-flavoured jazz, funk, RnB, disco, soul and afro-beat, fundamentally instrumental, but occasionally with vocal guest performers. The band consists of the six members Karl Olandersson on trumpet, Olle Thunstrom on tenor sax, Johan Oijen on electric guitar, Daniel Lantz on keyboards, Pal Johnson on electric bass and Jon Eriksson on drums. Daniel Lantz writes the majority of the band’s music.
The band has released eight studio albums, six of which have received international acclaim outside of the band&#39;s native Sweden, 60 weeks of airplay and high list placements on radio charts in the United States and Canada. Their albums <a href="spotify:track:4hE94i8DyaZB48tprGfedh" data-name="Moon Town">Moon Town</a>, <a href="spotify:album:7BJry998skecXPJFkw53zG" data-name="Voodooland">Voodooland</a>, <a href="spotify:track:4a0LONa8TOaK5cPDRxhX8I" data-name="Mandy&#39;s Secret">Mandy&#39;s Secret</a> and <a href="spotify:album:2HlQ5OQyBgQXn1NKbymgRE" data-name="Olympus">Olympus</a> all peaked at #1 on the American and Canadian jazz radio charts. For the whole of 2014, Beat Funktion was the 9th most played band on those charts.
Their sixth album <a href="spotify:track:7xKUevLU9x0henMuIb2fn8" data-name="Green Man">Green Man</a> is the band’s most ”vocal” showcase, released in 2016, featuring as many as 8 different vocal guests, such as <a href="spotify:artist:7blyuo5sQPRB2tmtUf2SpZ" data-name="Viktoria Tolstoy">Viktoria Tolstoy</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:6KzFpoFDDvmlin4ij5zgMj" data-name="Jasmine Kara">Jasmine Kara</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:0E2Jf1UHMqdQDdH12mc712" data-name="Claes Janson">Claes Janson</a> to name a few. Beat Funktion’s seventh album <a href="spotify:track:37ZDwFg8di4jaOBAQkMm1B" data-name="Roots">Roots</a> , all-instrumental, was released late in 2019 to massive acclaim, after a tour through Sweden, Germany and Austria.
During the pandemic, the band toured sparingly and released a series of archived live concert recordings from past years. In september 2023, the band releaaed their 8th studio album <a href="spotify:track:0aESrZjdWk4EFzgZ8fR5aK" data-name="Skywards">Skywards</a>.
