I started writing songs this year because life handed me stories too heavy to keep quiet. My dad is late-stage aphasia/dementia and non-verbal, and the only way I could speak to him was through a song. That became my first track, “Did You Know Then.” The stories kept coming - “Carter Mountain” about where my wife grew up, and “The Song of the Whippoorwill,” from a dream of me and my father on the porch, unable to talk but hearing the same bird. My songs aren’t made up. They’re real moments from a real life.
“A Rose Beside the Phone” came from a 3:47 AM wake-up call that changed how I love. I believe God nudges us in ways we don’t expect, and that moment reminded me to do things for the people we love, not just with them. My latest song "I don't know how to Pray" was created after many conversations with a family member that was trying to reconnect with his daughter and with God after being incarcerated for over 10 years.
I’m originally from northern Pennsylvania and now live in northern Virginia, after life took me through Paris, Heidelberg, Latin America, and across the country.
