In Detroit, MI, John Johnson Jr, stage name Jay Squared, was born Sept. 30th, 1994. As a lover of music and art in all facets, Jay’s goal has always been to push the boundaries of the culture and blend sounds into an unconventional audio journey.
Flirting with the lines between poetry and experimental hip hop, Jay Squared has advanced his sound through his work within and out of his native city. Over the years of his development as a music artist, he has landed on Local 4 News in Detroit, Lyrical Lemonade, ELEVATOR, Daily Chiefers, EARMILK, the Metro Times (one of Detroit’s premier publications), and performed at multiple local festivals (such as MOPOP, Arts, Beats & Eats, Dally in the Alley, etc.).
Jay has also cultivated a fan base worldwide through his formative years of building on SoundCloud in 2016, where his fire for the industry began to grow. Working with producers such as Tomppabeats, Rook1e, elijah who & many other phenomenal artists, Jay started to grow in a staggering number of streams and fans across all digital streaming platforms.

From exploring and having an interest in comedy via TikTok & IG Reels, script-writing, live-streaming and sound design for video games, and much more, Jay has a multi-faceted approach to everything in the entertainment business.
