Every few years or so, an artist comes along who shakes things up in Hip-Hop by intentionally departing from what has become the dominant “sound” of his era or generation. After quietly honing his skills for years, developing an impressive catalog while growing an organic fanbase without the support of a major label or cosign, Jay Swishes is poised to be “that guy”: Hip-Hop’s next game changing outlier. The Canadian-born, Brownsville-bred artist is the kind of artist who has the uncanny ability to create relatable music that evokes emotions from a variety of listeners, while always remaining authentic to its creator. Throughout high school, Jay seemed on course for a career in basketball. He had the skill, access to great coaches and the support of his family: his original interest in basketball was the bond it created between him and his father, with whom he wasn’t close otherwise. But he quickly realized that he didn’t have the dedication required to achieve greatness. What he WAS passionate about - enough to devote his time, energy and money to - was music. Growing up, both of Jay’s parents kept him immersed in music: his mother was a local Gospel singer and his father was a DJ
