Raised on the outskirts of Dallas, Texas, Joel Adam Russell began performing in Deep Ellum bars at thirteen, fronting a rock band in dusty dives and regional halls. He learned early how to hold a room, land a lyric, and mean every word.
He later settled in Visalia, California, between farmland and foothills. It was a forgotten place that felt closer to his family roots in Arkansas and Louisiana than suburban Dallas. There, shaped by rural rhythms and artists like Buck Owens and Merle Haggard, his solo voice emerged. He recorded his first album and opened for acts such as Martina McBride, REO Speedwagon, and 3 Doors Down, playing sold-out shows that opened new roads.
After relocating to Nashville more than a decade ago, Russell became a respected voice in the songwriter community. He’s performed at Stagecoach and AmericanaFest, was named Lightning 100’s Artist of the Week, and has released two albums (God, Gold, and Glory and Grand Prairie), two EPs (American Singles and Wildcat), and a steady flow of singles like Knock the Boy Out of You, Reckless and 30 Letters.
Russell’s sound lives at the intersection of country, folk, and outlaw-era Nashville. His songs avoid trends, staying close to the grain of real life. They're rooted in experience and built to endure.
“Everybody needs a song to call their own,” Russell says. “I’ve got more than I could ever need. As long as folks are looking, I’ll be happy to share mine.”
