Johannes Genard, the Belgian musician and singer-songwriter, is best known as frontman of the indie-pop band School Is Cool. The band gained attention after winning Humo's Rock Rally in 2010. Since then, they have performed at renowned festivals such as Pukkelpop, Dranouter, Rock Werchter, Best Kept Secret, Paleo Fest, and have made their mark in major concert halls in Belgium. With six albums to their name, they have firmly established themselves in the Belgian music scene.
In addition to his stage work, Genard has composed multiple soundtracks, including "Mont Blanc" by Gilles Coulier and the documentary "Yaren & de Zon" by Renate Raman and Joren Slaets. He created music for various theatre productions, including the internationally touring £¥€$ by Ontroerend Goed and "De Wereld Redden," collaborating with his brother Pieter Genard. Leveraging his surplus of artistic experience, he has served as a guest lecturer at the Conservatorium of Antwerp for six years.
Johannes Genard, with his versatility and artistic vision, has not only conquered the Belgian music scene but has also reached a wider audience. His successful cover version of "Honeybee" during the 2nd season of the VTM program "Liefde Voor Muziek" is just one example of his ability to deliver both accessible and innovative music. In 2024, Johannes returns for the 10th anniversary season of "Liefde voor Muziek," where he will present 8 new, surprising covers.
