Playing 12-string guitar, Joyce became well known on the UK blues scene, touring with many visiting American bluesmen including Howling Wolf, Jesse Fuller and Sonny Terry and Brownie McGee. He played in numerous UK bands, ranging through blues, rock and pop, appearing with artists such as Davy Graham, Roy Harper, Bert Jansch, John Renbourn, Al Stewart, the Strawbs and Velvet Opera. He continued to back visitors from overseas, among whom were Sandy Denny and Paul Simon. He also recorded with fellow 12-string player Paul Brett for the Fretdancer label. In addition to his performing work, Joyce was also well known for his work designing and repairing guitars.
