Johnny Moezzi is a Los Angeles–based singer-songwriter and guitarist, born in Iran, whose music is rooted in the blues but shaped by a uniquely cross-cultural and experiential journey.

As a teenager, Moezzi’s path was set in motion after sneaking into a Monterey Pop Festival performance by B.B. King—a formative moment that sparked a lifelong devotion to the blues. Soon after, he connected with the family of Ritchie Valens and began performing with the Backyard Blues Band, immersing himself early in the living lineage of American roots music.

After graduating from American University, Moezzi moved to Los Angeles, where he became bandleader and guitarist for legendary blues vocalist Mikey Champion. Performing alongside an artist whose career bridged generations—from Billie Holiday to Johnny Otis—served as Moezzi’s “musical graduate school,” grounding him deeply in authentic blues tradition.

He later launched a solo career, carving out a distinctive voice within Los Angeles’ diverse music scene. Through his involvement with the Beachwood Rockers Society—a modern echo of the 1960s Laurel Canyon creative movement—Moezzi developed a collaborative, genre-blurring approach to songwriting.

A longtime resident performer at The Piano Bar, he has shared creative space with artists like Kamasi Washington, Chuck E.
