Jonny Polonsky

Solo artist, songwriter, mult-instrumentalist and record producer <a href="spotify:artist:2lCZMQaePeruBO4bVVIxrM" data-name="Jonny Polonsky">Jonny Polonsky</a> grew up in the suburbs of Chicago. He began making music as a young boy, and was discovered as a teenager by <a href="spotify:artist:5Q8gM5SMBT2LAoZ5LzqAvH" data-name="Frank Black">Frank Black</a>/<a href="spotify:artist:2pNYUcoJ2HpOxNLH13TrnD" data-name="Black Francis">Black Francis</a> of <a href="spotify:artist:6zvul52xwTWzilBZl6BUbT" data-name="Pixies">Pixies</a>, after being introduced through <a href="spotify:artist:0oSGxfWSnnOXhD2fKuz2Gy" data-name="David Bowie">David Bowie</a> guitarist <a href="spotify:artist:04TnU4eRkAp17iClTducee" data-name="Reeves Gabrels">Reeves Gabrels</a>.


Polonsky was signed at age 21 by Rick Rubin to American Recordings, by way of a Frank Black produced demo. On his major label debut, <a href="spotify:album:3z4oIHzrzIsDmcre0Topna" data-name="Hi My Name Is Jonny">Hi My Name Is Jonny</a>, Polonsky wrote all the songs, played all the instruments and recorded everything himself. Super producer Brendan O&#39;Brien (<a href="spotify:artist:2d0hyoQ5ynDBnkvAbJKORj" data-name="Rage Against The Machine">Rage Against The Machine</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:1w5Kfo2jwwIPruYS2UWh56" data-name="Pearl Jam">Pearl Jam</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:3eqjTLE0HfPfh78zjh6TqT" data-name="Bruce Springsteen">Bruce Springsteen</a>) was brought in to mix.


The record was an international cult favorite, and continues to be to this day. It was heavily featured on MTV, in NY Times, Rolling Stone, Spin and countless publications across the globe.

His 2015 album, <a href="spotify:album:0huaq2kuQ1BODMYWe2wkYK" data-name="The Other Side of Midnight">The Other Side of Midnight</a>, was performed entirely by Polonsky. It was mixed by <a href="spotify:artist:4gfOoXI9MWCyREzvqNv38D" data-name="Dean Hurley">Dean Hurley</a> at <a href="spotify:artist:2Gu6Q05ExIGwHTF43kqLBI" data-name="David Lynch">David Lynch</a>&#39;s Asymmetrical Studios.


His fifth full length, Fresh Flesh, was released in 2018. It featured guest spots by Mark Lanegan and Kevin Haskins (<a href="spotify:artist:5N5tQ9Dx1h8Od7aRmGj7Fi" data-name="Bauhaus">Bauhaus</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:09mvgMBvJkxarNIDGdwPWg" data-name="Love and Rockets">Love and Rockets</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:5aBEGOeWQCJfptic9xyaAb" data-name="Tones On Tail">Tones On Tail</a>).
