Chicago-based songwriter and singer Josephine Luhman is a Midwestern musician through and through. Born in the small town of Northfield, MN, where her mother was a pastor, she’d spend a lot of her time in church. On days when the pews were empty, she’d sit at the piano, teaching herself how to play, singing loudly and with confidence. Later in her teen years, her family moved to the sprawling city of St. Paul where she learned guitar and GarageBand.
She's been hooked on music ever since. Luhman now pursues and performs her work in Chicago, IL sharing her music as Josephine. Her work can sound like three songs in one, with soft yet driving guitars, lush harmonies, and romantic lyrics. Before going by her first name, she released bedroom pop under the name Joz, but during lockdown she craved a different, more candid sound. This desire for change led to Josephine.
