Josh Semans

Josh Semans is a composer, producer, and ondes Martenot player based in the north-west of England. Working from a converted attic studio, his work is uniquely textured, employing a range of instruments, sound-sources, and processes. A keen improviser, his creative process is a cocktail of exploration, repetition, and abstraction.

Josh regularly collaborates and works with other musicians and composers, having recorded and performed alongside <a href="spotify:artist:6jDiXQFNb5UYscCSghzEEA" data-name="Adrian Utley">Adrian Utley</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:3Lw97gGh8bp1MftsYmwJHG" data-name="Luke Sital-Singh">Luke Sital-Singh</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:3FlXXv8lfSt3ZWk9epMxe7" data-name="Hainbach">Hainbach</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:5jEGjnI2WdRyJSUICQQIrK" data-name="Simeon Walker">Simeon Walker</a>, and <a href="spotify:artist:6o0pKKljrn7GYEZTQPFwKp" data-name="Alexandra Hamilton-Ayres">Alexandra Hamilton-Ayres</a>, among others.


He has performed on Tony Award-winning composer <a href="spotify:artist:25ZtHjSjM5LJckzidujhoQ" data-name="Alex Baranowski">Alex Baranowski</a>&#39;s score for Jacqui Morris’ &#39;A Christmas Carol&#39;, <a href="spotify:artist:1nO0SRSfsukVmUASnuravA" data-name="Volker Bertelmann">Volker Bertelmann</a>&#39;s score for &#39;Against The Ice&#39;, and <a href="spotify:artist:3Ww8GMbCDMAGwJJ2hd7z7z" data-name="Lena Raine">Lena Raine</a>&#39;s soundtrack to RPG video-game Moonglow Bay. As well as appearing on various BBC Radio and Sky Arts Television programmes, Josh has also created the &#39;LABS Ondes Musicales&#39; software instrument in collaboration with Spitfire Audio.


Josh&#39;s ambitious second album, funded by the Help Musicians &#34;Do It Differently&#34; fund, is a collection of pieces for ondes Martenot, Juno 6, and string quartet. This album is being released on Hidden Notes Records in September 2023.
