Josh Whelchel

I am <a href="spotify:artist:04028XCsu1NbFcypg2g559" data-name="Josh Whelchel">Josh Whelchel</a>, a composer, songwriter, and producer.

My music is best described as haunting, ethereal, and mystical. I write Dark Opera music.

I&#39;m best known for producing orchestral and electronic music for games with Mojang, Witching Hour Studios, and Adult Swim Games.

In 2016 I scored Masquerada <a href="spotify:album:0kLgdIM3iDDkoL56c9J8yb" data-name="Masquerada: Songs and Shadows">Masquerada: Songs and Shadows</a> featuring performances by <a href="spotify:artist:4gj7FWGd7QhXoULkNuyfQv" data-name="John Robert Matz">John Robert Matz</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:5DW07aMZfSt6HcDlCPhx4a" data-name="Kristin Naigus">Kristin Naigus</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:4v1lNt9Fnv87ABVRYtiUBE" data-name="Patti Rudisill">Patti Rudisill</a>, and <a href="spotify:artist:4r5u157mW8gGEZZ0wtixBh" data-name="Ryan C. Connelly">Ryan C. Connelly</a>. The Cincinnati based choir was led by conductor Isaac Selya.

I wrote music for The Spirit Engine series by Mark Pay. The lengthy scores for <a href="spotify:album:2IDOjCVSWSJ7NrwS7RPySN" data-name="The Spirit Engine - Original Soundtrack">The Spirit Engine - Original Soundtrack</a>, and <a href="spotify:album:5F9xwICTwea3o7azag440S" data-name="The Spirit Engine 2 - Original Soundtrack">The Spirit Engine 2 - Original Soundtrack</a> call back to Japanese RPG soundtracks in big ways, being primarily produced using tracking tools such as Modplug Tracker and ReNoise.

I studied Composition at the College-Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati, Ohio, and later co-founded Loudr in San Francisco.
