Kalamazoo-based singer/songwriter Josie Hall began playing guitar when she was 8 years old and has been singing her entire life. She remembers her parents always having music on at home, her father is a musician, and her older sisters played piano and sang at school and church. The three sisters would sing together at home, harmonizing and putting on shows for family and friends.
Josie began writing songs when she was 13 and then taught herself piano during the pandemic. Her debut single, “Lilies to Rose,” was released in 2024 and her new EP Sweetheart contains a blend of pop, folk, and alternative sounds reminiscent of Gracie Abrams, Ben Platt, Billie Eilish, and Adele. Josie's dynamic vocal range creates soaring choruses and delicately introspective melodies. The simple instrumentation allows her emotionally driven lyrics to shine through as she explores themes of relationships, heartache, and self-discovery. Josie Hall has written a collection of songs on Sweetheart that is perfect for car rides and late nights.
Hall says, “My music comes from a place of vulnerability and honesty. Everything I write stems from a true story that has helped to shape my life. When people hear my music, I hope they can relate it to their own experiences, because I want others to feel heard, seen, and understood.”
