A prominent British singer/songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer best known for her work with <a href="spotify:artist:2IZohp3Lo4D9nbEmn5r06l">the Albion Band</a> and fellow ex-<a href="spotify:artist:2IZohp3Lo4D9nbEmn5r06l">Albion</a> member <a href="spotify:artist:7BJeiCjAC1BzgFup2Ht3TC">Chris While</a>, Julie Matthews was born in 1963 in Sheffield, Yorkshire, England. A self-taught musical polymath, Matthews began writing songs while still in school, eventually moving to London at the age of 18 to write for a small publishing company. She joined <a href="spotify:artist:2IZohp3Lo4D9nbEmn5r06l">the Albion Band</a> in 1990 and became a pivotal force within the popular <a href="spotify:artist:5Jw86QkrJ4s9f6j37t3JIr">Ashley Hutchings</a>-led folk-rock group, before launching a successful and long-running folk duo with Julie Matthews in 1998 with the album Piecework.
