Following a series of successful singles, Zimbabwean born, Calgary-based artist Kaeyae Alo finally brings
us a full-length EP. That said, at just 13 minutes, this moody, soulful, and emotion-filled 6-track project is still
a light, if savory appetizer of what’s to come.
Kaeyae Alo’s effortless, soothing voice and stripped-down stylings bring comfort and reassurance to an
otherwise chaotic world. Her music intentionally holds space for the listener—insisting and compelling you
to feel something, but leaving that something up to you to define; Kaeyae Alo invites you to befriend what
moves you. Observing the world through quarantine, Kaeyae Alo sought solace in art, performance and film
while watching real life emotions run wild, and relationships break down. Her previously released singles tell
stories of others’ experiences, helping her find her voice in a quickly changing world. 17times, however, is
deeply personal.
Listening to Kaeyae Alo sing is an active, participatory experience. From the first second of the first word,
Kaeyae Alo’s timeless, gorgeous vocals offer access to not only her own, but each listeners’ internal
dialogue—begging the question: What’s on your mind? Find it. Feel it. Hold onto it. Own it.
