Kai Whiston is a UK-based artist and producer who began releasing music at 15, earning early recognition from Mary Anne Hobbs, Flying Lotus, and Anthony Fantano. After a run of SoundCloud uploads and live sets for Boiler Room and i-D Magazine, he signed to Ninja Tune in 2017, releasing Fissure Price EP while still in secondary school.
His studio albums include Quiet As Kept, F.O.G. (2022), which explores rave music through the lens of his family history and the New Age Traveller community. The album was featured in year-end lists by The Quietus, The Wire, and Crack Magazine, and Whiston was named a Dazed100 honouree for his contributions to experimental music and culture. Previous projects such as Kai Whiston Bitch (2018) and No World As Good As Mine (2019) established his reputation for genre-pushing production. He has collaborated with artists including SOPHIE, Shygirl, COUCOU CHLOE, VTSS, A. G. Cook, and Iglooghost.
In 2020, Whiston founded Lux Cache, an educational platform dedicated to experimental music production. Lux Cache offers tools, insights, and support for post-genre music producers. The platform collaborates with institutions like Ableton, New York University, and BIMM, fostering the next-generation talent in sound.
In 2024, Whiston joined music technology studio SLATE + ASH, developing experimental instruments and contemporary compositional tools for sound designers, composers, and artists.
