A mix of The Netherlands, Jamaica and Surinam; Natalio Rijssel also known as dancehall artist Kalibwoy takes the genre to a new level and you don’t want to miss it.
For years Kalibwoy’s sound has had a chokehold on the dancehall scene. But his talent and international ambitions can be spotted from miles away. As a teenager Kalibwoy moved from The Netherlands to Surinam for a few years and got inspired to get into music by his rapping friends. The aspiring artist put all his focus into his development and once back in his home county he put pen to paper to get down some lyrics. Kalibwoy stood out from others in his field, because of his interests in the entertainment industry as a whole. Getting to know the ins and outs of artist development and A&R, among others, set him up for success.
His unique sound has not gone unnoticed beyond the borders. The track ‘Palo’, which was made in collaboration with Puri and Kolate Tesla in 2020, has been featured in the SAVAGE x FENTY show of superstar Rihanna. In the same year Kalibwoy released his EP ‘FRASS4LIFE’ and incorporated influences of dancehall goats like Vybz Kartel, Sizzla and Damian Marley. But don’t doubt he is confined by his genre of choice, because Kalibwoy gets inspired by all sorts of sounds and artists. Keeping his audience on their toes in the process.
