Emerging from North Texas, Kalypso—formerly known as Divine Calypso—was formed in 2023, originally created as a project by Matt Frandsen (guitar, vocals). Matt began writing and composing in his room, when Sam Casares, with drums and vocals in his arsenal, reached out eager to forge a new musical journey. Their inaugural jam session, joined by Jesse Gonzales on bass, ignited an electric synergy that was impossible to ignore. From that first meeting, the three piece band's dynamic chemistry pulsed through every note, setting the stage for a powerful, unfolding soundscape.
In July 2023, Kalypso released Collectivism, a 5-track EP diving into psychedelia, featuring the standout “Black Well Water.” Later that year came their debut album, Peace be the Moon, which deepened their ethereal vibe with a heavier, lasting intensity.
On June 22, 2024, their sophomore LP, Lost City of the Monkey God, offered a vibrant mix of kaleidoscopic garage rock like “Ryujin” and cosmic semi-acoustic textures such as “Nekomata’s End.” Their latest project, Lost Dogs, marks their rawest, most unfiltered punk expression, signaling an electrifying evolution.
