Nog voor ze haar opleiding aan de Academie voor Kleinkunst in Amsterdam in 1984 afrondt, valt ze in de prijzen. Ze ontvangt de Pisuisseprijs, een onderscheiding voor de student met de beste theaterprestatie binnen de Academie. Deze prijs wordt na haar afstuderen al snel opgevolgd door de Pall Mall Exportprijs. Een prijs met als doel de ontwikkeling van jonge artiesten te bevorderen.
Ze ontwikkelt zich als zangeres en actrice in diverse Nederlandse musicals, speelfilms, televisie- en radioprogramma’s.
Na zes jaar is de tijd rijp voor haar eerste eigen theatershow Bosje Bloemen. Dit is de eerste show in een reeks van de twaalf succesvolle theatershows zoals: Karin in Concert, La Bloemen, Everything… La on Tour, Late Nights, Kameleon, De Diva en de Divan, diverse Kerst Shows, Kameleon en haar 25 jarige Jubileum Show. In seizoen 2019-2020 is Karin wederom te zien in de theaters. Ditmaal met een puur, intiem en muzikaal programma, genaamd ‘Billie, Aretha, Norah, Amy… Karin’, maar ook met de reprise van haar Souvenirs-tournee.
