Karmate is a music group founded in July 2008 by Resul Dindar, İsmail Avcı (İsmanaşi), and Oktay Üst. The name Karmate means “mill” in the Laz language, symbolizing production, labor, and mutual aid in the Black Sea region.
The group is dedicated to preserving the authenticity of endangered languages and musical traditions. Their mission is to revive forgotten melodies and carry them to a universal platform using acoustic instruments, while staying true to the cultural essence of the songs.
Performing in Laz, Turkish, Mingrelian, Georgian, Hemshin, and Pontic Greek, Karmate reinterprets lullabies, ballads, and folk songs with care and respect. In 2012, founding member Resul Dindar left the group to pursue a solo career.
