LILAC, formerly known as Kate Kim, started her journey in 2013 when she debuted as a musical actress in Korea’s official Broadway production of “High School Musical on Stage!” and the next year, she was introduced to the public eye by participating in the Korean television audition program “Superstar K” Season 6. In 2014, she joined producers ‘2LSON’ and their record label 2LSON Entertainment and debuted as a K-Pop artist named ‘Kate Kim’ with the single called “Love”, and shortly thereafter featured in 2LSON’s song “Paused” which hit number one on the Korean chart.
In 2017, she was a part of a collaboration with KIA Motors, shooting two global commercials using one of her existing songs “I Don’t Wanna Go” and a new song she wrote for the collaboration called “Ode to Daydreams”. The following year she wrote and released an EDM track “So Long, Baby” in which she had full creative control for the first time and directed everything herself––from planning and organizing the music video and song release to even editing and uploading her own behind-the-scenes video post song release.
Her journey with 2LSON Entertainment came to an end in 2019, and she catapulted into a new world of being an independent artist and during this time, formed a new identity for herself––an alter ego named LILAC. Different from her sweet, pink and young image, LILAC carries a more mature sound and a sound that she feels is more “her”––exemplified through her first single “tin man”.
